The Beijing International Sports Film Week, initiated in 2005, has become a platform for Chinese sports films and Chinese sports filmmakers to demonstrate their appeal and style to the world.

As Gao Yunchao, Deputy Director of the Beijing Olympic City Development Center, addressed the 19th Beijing International Sports Film Week Launch Activity for Collection of Works held on April 26, the 19th edition would deepen cooperation with the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), strengthen cooperation with domestic and international institutions in building an international sports film and television exchange platform with international fame and authority following the principle of “inheriting Olympic legacy and promoting development", tell Chinese sports stories well, reinforce exchanges of sports culture between China and other countries, foster the growth of the sports industry in China, and contribute to the construction of a sports power.

In addition to authoritative jury members, more than eight competition sections and screening opportunities for outstanding entries, the Beijing International Sports Film Week boasts one-of-its-kind global horizon. From 2009 on, the event is named the “Academy Awards for Sports Films” by the industry. As part of the World FICTS Challenge, it recommends selection of works to the Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS FEST-World Championship Final. 

Last year, A Date with Snow and Ice starring Yiyang Qianxi and Eileen Gu, and The Wonder of Dance recommended by the Beijing International Sports Film Week won the Mention d’Honneur in the TV & WEBLOG section and Paralympic section respectively at the Sport Movies & TV-Milano International FICTS FEST-World Championship Final.

In addition, the event invites mainstream media outlets, such as People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV and People.cn, streaming platforms and we media to form the jury, and review and select the “most popular film” so as to discover excellent films featuring sports culture, powerful communication and resonance with the general public.

After preliminary selection, the Beijing International Sports Film Week will organize selection and recommendation in August. The notice of entries is as follows:

1. Deadline: July 20, 2023

2. Method of entry: Click “Read more” to download the entry form, submit the entry form and film to Baidu Cloud, and e-mail the verification code to sportsfilmweek@163.com. Each entry shall consist of: 1) Complete final film (MOV or MP4 version preferred); 2) Entry form (Word version); 3) A scanned copy of the entry form with signature/seal (PDF version); 4) Submit poster, still or trailer if available, or provide such promotional materials later when the entry is shortlisted.

3. Scope of entries: Sports films by production companies or individuals in the past three years (2021-2023), such as documentary, feature film and promotional film. In particular, the scope of documentaries is five years (2019-2023).

4. Notice of authorization: The materials and information of entries to be recommended will be used for the following purposes, including but not limited to: 1) Information published in the 19th Beijing International Film Week Brochure and on the official website of the Beijing International Sports Film Week; 2) Promotional documents of the Beijing International Sports Film Week and launch events; 3) Audio and video promotional materials of the Beijing International Sports Film Week.
